UPDATED! CALL TO ACTION – YNP – AUG 24th @ 11:30am

A permanent YNP employee was fired last week for displaying the trans flag, in direct violation of the 1st Amendment.

In response, folks are mobilizing to rally and protest on Sunday, 8/24, from 11:30am-3:30pm, in Yosemite Valley.

The rally will start in front of the Yosemite Valley Exploration Center (park in Yosemite Village parking or Yosemite Lodge parking).

Mariposa Joins National John Lewis Day of Action – “Good Trouble Lives On”

Mariposa, CA — On Thursday, July 17, community members in Mariposa will join Americans at hundreds of events nationwide to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis and fight back against the growing attacks on our civil and human rights.

The local action in Mariposa is part of Good Trouble Lives On — a nationwide day of peaceful, nonviolent action rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement and inspired by John Lewis’ call to make “good trouble, necessary trouble.”

Participants will gather to demand an end to the authoritarian attacks on our freedom to vote, protest, and organize — and to stand united against efforts to criminalize our communities, roll back our rights, and slash vital public programs.

Local organizers invite press to attend, capture, and uplift the voices of those taking peaceful action in defense of democracy.

About this event

Our Congressman Tom McClintock seems afraid to face his constituents in person. We have repeatedly invited McClintock to appear but he has never answered.

Visiting Congressman John Garamendi of California’s 8th Congressional District will be our guest at a Town Hall meeting for constituents of California’s 5th Congressional District. Congressman Garamendi will be appearing via zoom from Washington, D.C. for an hour from 6 – 7 pm Pacific time to comment on the situation in Congress and take questions live. Doors open at 5:00 pm to prepare questions for the Q&A period.

Congressman Garamendi was raised in Mokelumne Hill, Calaveras County, California in the heart of California’s 5th District. He has a deep knowledge of the issues affecting the Sierra Foothill communities of CA-05. He has a long career in public service beginning with the Peace Corps, 4 terms in the California Senate, 2 terms as Ca Insurance Commissioner, and appointed Deputy Secretary of the Interior by President Clinton, elected Lt. Governor, before serving 8 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

For those of us in remote areas of Congressional District 05, we have a link to the Zoom webinar being hosted by El Dorado Progressives/Indivisible El Dorado.
